Document the network setup

I am finally going to collate all the bits of paper and try and leaver out some of the info I have in my head onto a Network documentation document, will take ages I expect (thats why I been putting it off)

 

What info have you guys n gals put in yours, to what detail ?

I would suggest starting with:

 

Switch and server IPs

Logical map of the network cabling

Physical map of the network (or at least an indication where your wall sockets are cabled back to etc)

Number of systems (for licencing reasons etc.)

Anybody got some pro forma sheets that they use? That would be a great help.

 

Many many years ago Novell had a handbook that you used to document your system.

This is one of my many many jobs for the summer months... although like last year i see it being put off till another time for something more fun... yes i know it's a bad thing to be without.
