Pause clustering facility?

I've got a 2 node 2012r2 HA cluster with SAN. I'm going to be changing the physical location of the switches that the cluster connects to in the next couple of weeks.

 

Is there a way to just pause/stop the cluster from trying to fail over while we perform the maintenance?

 

I don't want/need to actually shut the VM/Roles/Servers down.

If you did one switch at a time, why would it fail over, and if it did why would that be a bad thing? If active-active it should just keep chugging along in a degraded state. If passive/active then move the active unit first and it fails over through backup/passive unit until the move of the first unit is complete? Or am I missing something (never run a cluster, so genuinely curious)
