Oculus Quest 2 Going up £100!

£400 for the now 128gb base model in August. Still the best value VR headset around but you have 3 days to get a cheaper one for only £299..

 

I have one it's very good, you can use wifi to connect to your desktop for PCVR (which is how I played HL Alyx)

 

if you were on the fence maybe time to go for it!

 

p.s. I just bought a old but complete 64gb model for £160 on ebay! (works great)

 

I can't wait to see what happens to ebay prices, it'll be telling.

My son has one and loves it. They are brilliant. We bought his for £299 from Amazon. 11 months later the thumb stick on the left controller started drifting slightly. We got in touch with Amazon and they just refunded the entire £299! Bought a new controller for £70 and kept the change!

Bought one about a month ago for my son as his cousin had one. Only thing he plays on it is Gorrila Tag so effectively paid £300 for a game (he does play it a lot though). Guess in the future he might try some other games but at the moment he doesn't use it for much else.

Classic move. Price your device so low that everyone else can't compete and falls out the market, then when you're dominant - up your price.

I've had mine since launch. It's a fantastic device and would definitely recommend it. It's clear Oculus/Meta were subsidising it pretty heavily and likely selling at cost, or maybe even a loss, so I'm not surprised they're hiking the price. Even the original Quest headset was £400 when it launched in 2019 and at that price it's still cheaper than any PCVR headset alternatives.

 

I doubt if even the upcoming Playstation VR2 headset will be any cheaper than £400 and still needs a PS5 to run it. I don't see Apple challenging anyone on price knowing their marketing strategy and Microsoft seem to have lost interest in VR at the moment. So even at the increased price Oculus will have the "budget" end of the VR market to themselves for the forseeable future.

 

Still an amazing bit of tech that can easily justify the £400 price tag though even nearly 2 years after release IMO. You probably need to budget an extra £50 onto the price though as you'll want the Elite headset strap, or a equivalent third party alternative, since the bundled soft strap is useless!
