Google > Office365 Migration

Hi Guys

 

Anyone managed to successfully migrate from Google Suite > Office365

 

We have a School that are RM Federated currently on Suite and looking to Migrate to Office365

 

Quite a small school and we have applied for a 365 Tenancy account which is currently under review

 

We are planning to use a Migration tool to do the Migration of Google Data/Emails etc to handle this

 

However the question is we will need to change the MX Records to make the transfer, and the school have asked to priortise on moving the admin and heads email accounts first then the teachers can follow after

 

I guess its not possible to have both 365 and gmail running at the same time right?

 

Any pointers or suggestions on best way to schedule this! First time we are doing it so want to cause as little disruption as we can!

Perfectly possible to have both running at the same time, obviously MX records needs to be pointing only at one. Your O365 tenant will have a @Tenantname.onmicrosoft.com address alongside your preferred domain.

 

Migrate data for a user, setup a forwarder from google to the @Tenantname address. Come to think of it, the Microsoft google apps migrate tool will even do the forwarding for you.

 

For completeness you can also create all your accounts in O365 and setup a temp domain in google and forward in that direction till you’re ready to migrate that user.

We are about to start a migration next week of two academy's from Google to 365. They allready have accounts in 365 as needed access to trust data and have a forewarder on the 365 account.

 

Looking forward for them to be moved over to 365 like the rest of the trust. We have a company doing the migration for us.
