Just got this working, the instructions are ok but over about 4 different pages quite convoluted.

 

I also tripped up adding the firewall rule as that wasn't clear either.

 

All fine once you get trough to 2nd level support though.

 

Is there any advantage to installing the idex client on devices as well as the agent on the domain controller?

 

I think its a one or the other arrangement.

 

The agent reports from AD logins - isnt logout aware, so can lead to weird things in a user switching arrangement, requires no client config.

 

The client had alot of issues with our setup where it would crash and not restart - this would result in internet not working until the machine rebooted or i restared the service so i removed it and deployed the agent as it was more reliable

Correct - iDex agent and iDex client are 2 separate solutions. The iDex client has been mostly supplanted by the cloud filter extension these days so is rarely used.
