Dear Google Workspace Administrator,

We're writing to let you know about a technical issue that we have fixed impacting your Admin console settings for Search and Assistant. We have provided more information below, including the actions you can take to ensure the correct settings are enabled.

What happened and our response

As a result of the technical issue, the Search and Assistant On/Off setting on your Admin Console began displaying that the service was Off for all of your Workspace users, when the service was actually On. The underlying technical issue has been resolved, and the Admin console now displays that the service is On.

Out of an abundance of caution, we will begin to automatically turn off Search and Assistant for your organization’s users on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. Users with the Search and Assistant service set to off can still use some Search features, similar to the experience for a user signed out of their account, though without using information from their account or saving information to it.

What to do

If you want to keep Search and Assistant ON for your users, you must take the following steps by Monday, June 27, 2022

Can anyone explain what this function actually is/does? Surely it's not just searching via Google.co.uk/com?

Basically, yeah. The key part there is...

Users with the Search and Assistant service set to off can still use some Search features, similar to the experience for a user signed out of their account, though without using information from their account or saving information to it.

Note that with Search And Assistant turned ON for your users in Google Admin, you can still specify within that that Google Assistant is turned off for them. I'm working on the assumption that keeping Assistant turned off is good, because home smart speakers.

Cheers! The main PITA would be getting permission from parents to sign in their name, but as the pupils aren't currently using more than the basic functions I think we're OK.
