Trying to make a bootable macOS USB but getting error

Hi all,

 

Trying to make a macOS Monterey bootable USB as I've managed to lock myself out/brick a device using JAMF.

 

All seems to go okay when make the install but when I try to boot from it, it just comes up with that no entry sign and reboots. I've then tried to now make a Big Sur install but it keeps throwing up an error about 'the bless of the installer disk failed'.

 

Tried it on 3 different USBs now and can't find anything useful online! I'm making the bootable installs on our Mac server which is on Sierra.

Is this the article you’re following to make the bootable installer? https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201372.

Are you running at least macOS Sierra 10.12.5?

I've had issues before creating bootable installers for new macOS releases, on older macOS so that could be why.

 

You could try macOS recovery instead? https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204904

 

Apple Silicon:

• press and hold power button at startup
  

Intel:

• Command-R: built-in macOS Recovery System
  
• Option-Command-R: macOS Recovery over the internet (install latest supported macOS)
  
• Option-Shift-Command-R: macOS Recovery over the internet (reinstall the version of macOS that came with your Mac)

So update - For some reason installing Mojave worked... Weird...! Will try making a bootable device on the updated mac rather than our server...
