PC Electromagnetic radiation and the like

Ahoy-hoy

 

Just been asked by someone doing risk assessments, do PC's pose a risk to pregnant women? are there any magnetic and/or any other fields that a PC gives off that could potentially be damaging? Also should we factor in wireless just to cover ourselves?

 

I've provisionally said that and "fields" given off by a computer are negligible but what do you lot think?

I cant see how it would risk anyone and I have not seen anything contrary.

Computers are heavily shielded from EM radiation so as not to interfere with or be interfered with by other electronics, this is one of the reasons that the case is grounded as it helps limit radio spectrum broadcasts.

 

A modern PC should be of no concern, the only things to look out for would be really old style CRT monitors, pre 90s as these had far less radiation shielding and possibly wireless.

 

I say possibly wireless because there is no real data that links this to being harmful but there is a public perception that it may be (thank you scaremongering BBC). Standing near your microwave when cooking something exposes you to far more microwave radiation than wireless does.
