How can we set a standard background that can easily be changed (eg to advertise the school play, then change to the standard background after a week) - we have a Windows 2003 Domain and all students have roaming profiles.

Also how can we stop the kids applying their own backgrounds.

You will need to restrict the access to the wallpaper settings and turn off active desktop I think as well. I think there is a third thig as well which maybe a reg hack to make sure but I cant remember it.

You may need an entry on a log on script as well to change current backgrounds.

Create a template in something like photoshop and each time you need to change it, edit it, save it as a .bmp file and get your gpo to point to it.

For wallpaper though I would recommend bginfo. I have used it for about 18 months now and it displays username, IP address, Mac Address, Free Hd Space and Logon server which makes trouble shooting easier for me in most cases as I dont have to log them off to find out their mac address etc.

You should be able to do all you want by configuring the active desktop section on the GPO of the OU you want the back ground to appear on.

We have differnet backgrounds for teachers, pupils and support staff.

Only today i have just doena abckground so oall the school computers get it for our Up and Coming school play.
