Anyone Know a Free Utility to Encrypt .PDFs?

Afternoon all,

 

Just looking around for something that can apply a password to a .pdf. Has to be free, must be a locally installed bit of software and ideally would literally just install and be used to add passwords to existing .pdfs. Did think I'd 7zip them but that won't do.

 

Anyone know a thing that'll do the thing?

Be careful it easy to remove - https://smallpdf.com/unlock-pdf , I would use a .7zip password protected file.

pdftk will do it, pdftk *input* *output* user_pw *password*

 

I wrapped it in a python script so they just drag files to it and type in a password

I'm going to presume that if SmallPDF was previously linked to for unlocking, is it any safer locking it using SmallPDF...?

I upload the file, set a password using 128 encryption download the file - the file asks for the password you set. No need to access the website for opening the file

You're uploading confidential pdfs to a random website?

if you are exporting from office (word) you can set a pdf password upon export. (in the options area)

Point it to the pdf, give it a password, press go. It saves your password protected pdf to a folder of your choice. Simples.
