The Gen 2 Ubiquiti switches are all L3 (as far as I'm aware). It's the Gen 1 switches which are all L2.

My understanding is that the ubiquiti switches are layer 2+ with layer 3 coming in a future update....... but layer3 was also coming to gen 1 in a future update also.

I Missed this one.

Was considering unifi this year. We already use Sophos XG and WIFI, so this is a good thing for use. Hopefully Sophos will also release a core switch with MLACP at some point. Unifi also don't have a core solution just yet.

Core switching and Wifi 6 are due this year. Specs TBC, but regardless can use L3 on the XGS for most uses in a school LAN. I don't think they'll be challenging Cisco Enterprise Switching etc, but will suit many school environments and budgets. The single dashboard and end to end security will improve efficiency and support. If any one would like to get involved in any Pilot/Trials, please get in touch, we're currently putting together managed bundle offers and service wrap.

Bear in mind that these switches don't meet all of the standards in this document:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/meeting-digital-and-technology-standards-in-schools-and-colleges/switch-standards-for-schools-and-colleges

Whether you agree with the standards is a separate discussion, but this is the direction the Government are going.

Also, don't forget to factor in the required annual subscription to Sophos Switch Support and Services.

The spec is developing and is expected to be compliant (and like you say, the standards/budget mix will always be a challenge!). The licence costs are pretty low, and we can wrap these into our managed service fairly painlessly.

Will be interesting to see the spec and pricing in the next few months

Do you have any more info on this please? We're looking at doing our edge and core next year. Would be great if Sophos have a range the can cover both. We already have site wide apx530s
