KASIT Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 Hi, There may be a better thread to post this under, however, thought I should try here. I work within a school that is split over two seperate sites, both with their own independent connection which has been cloned from our main site. Main site works completely fine. However, at our second site, WiFi speeds in classrooms happily sit at around 200-300Mbps. When connecting to Miracast speeds drop below 8Mbps, as low as 100Kbps. Wired miracast works fine. Tested multiple devices. Bluetooth and Wireless drivers, etc all up to date. Have tested a device from main site. Have tested external devices that aren't inTuned. Updated Miracast to latest firmware. Bothsites share same firewall settings. Essentially, the only difference between the 2 sites is the equipment in the cabinet which leads me to believe the issue may be sitting here somewhere. Has anyone got any suggestions? TIA!
mavhc Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Can you see what wifi channels are in use? When you say speeds drop to <8Mbps, do you mean the speed the miracast is going, the other wifi connection on the same laptop, or all laptops on site?
KASIT Posted April 29, 2022 Author Posted April 29, 2022 Hi mate, Using Dual Band 802.11a/b/g Using fast.com devices getting speeds of around 200Mbps. When broadcasting to the MDA, speed drops on the device to less than 8Mbps. All other devices on that site, not connected to a MDA are perfectly fine. Done a bit more testing today, connected via Android phone to MDA and speed drops under 8Mbps on that too. I feel I've elimated everything, which then leads me to believe its something to do with the Aruba Core Switch? Thanks
mavhc Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Miracast uses 2.4GHz to setup the connection, then can either use 2.4 or 5GHz. One option to get more details about what's happening is to miracast to a windows 10 computer with the wireless display Windows optional component installed. Then check what wifi channels are in use. https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wifi_information_view.html could be run, possibly from a 3rd laptop. What happens if the laptop is plugged in via ethernet too?
KASIT Posted April 29, 2022 Author Posted April 29, 2022 Using Ethernet to connect to network and broadcasting to MDA is perfectly fine. Speeds of 200Mbps+ I think my next step is to compare the Aruba settings on both sites to ensure they're both set the same. I have a feeling there's a pesky tickbox not enabled somewhere.
KASIT Posted April 29, 2022 Author Posted April 29, 2022 Okay, now banging my head against the wall. The site which was originally working, now seems to have the same issue. So now, it's essentially, when connecting to WiFi and broadcasting to MDA speeds completely breaks down...
KASIT Posted April 29, 2022 Author Posted April 29, 2022 Can't seem to find any documentation or information regarding ports. Any idea which ports if any need to be open to enable the Miracasts to send packets over WiFi?
mavhc Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 It's probably not ports, because it's not using the traditional network interface, the wifi nic is creating a new wifi connection with the screen, outside of the traditional windows network world. You might be able to see it with the wifi scanner though https://hsc.com/DesktopModules/DigArticle/Print.aspx?PortalId=0&ModuleId=1215&Article=221
KASIT Posted April 29, 2022 Author Posted April 29, 2022 Yeah, to be honest, I didn't think ports either as the devices are able to connect, albeit slow. However, are provider said it could still be the case. I've requested the appropriate ports to be open anyways, as they're open in our other academy chain schools. See how that goes before moving to next step. Trying to elimate each thing to narrow it down.
