cdwyersandysecondary Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 Hi All, After a few weeks of pain, our Windows 11 build seems to now deploy and work pretty well. Bit of a backwards way of doing it, but MDT installs the ISO instead of a customised WIM and then all our applications are deployed to the Win 11 OU via GPO's. This is the ONLY way I could get Win 11 to deploy. The one gripe I am having is with Microsoft Edge. I have tried a few reg keys but to no avail as of yet. Has anyone managed to remove the painfully annoying first run screen? I do not want students to have to run through all the rigmarole before they can use their browser. Many thanks
LeMarchand Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 Not got time to check but, as no-one has asked what to do, I'm assuming that using Group Policy to "Hide the First-run experience and splash screen" is working. 1
jmak Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 This email for me in Windows 10 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge] "HideFirstRunExperience"=dword:00000001 I had to create the Edge key and then create the DWORD
DaveTheTech Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 One of the latest updates has added another screen. I presume there are some new GPOs that need to be imported?
jmak Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 It's so bad and so long I'm tempted to change default browser to something else and hide Edge from the start menu and toolbar. Probably more effort than getting rid of the first run experience, but it's really off-putting
LeMarchand Posted April 8, 2022 Posted April 8, 2022 Just wiped a couple of machines to W10 + GPO installs with the above GPO. When Edge opens, there is this if a start URL hasn't altered the opening page and that's it. Chrome has a similar "Give us your data" box if/when it opens at Google.
cdwyersandysecondary Posted April 8, 2022 Author Posted April 8, 2022 I spent all this time faffing with reg keys and the GPO policy worked as mentioned above, I guess I jumped the gun and assumed Microsoft would make it impossible!
