Hi all,

I have a few users here (including myself!!) who are now reporting they need to press CTRL+ALT+DEL to unlock their device once it's locked and turned the display off. Things aren't going to "sleep" sleep, it's just the display timeout. "Do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL" is enabled in group policy (and always has been), but I'm certain that only relates to the initial logon anyway. Anyone else seen this, or got an explanation? Has an update changed something?

Thank you

Stuart

Have you had a look at the local policy at one of the stations where this is an issue (yours, perhaps?) Does that show a change in this policy?

Set to "Enabled on my machine too, but like I say - I believe that setting to only affect the initial logon anyway?

A new bit of software making causing (a rather odd) change in station behaviour? Or an old bit of software hiding in plain sight doing the same?

I had been allowing Impero to upgrade in place (without removing and redeploying a new package via SCCM) This was working well until a new device was added to my network. This new device completed the build OK, but after a little while on the network the screen went black. Remoting into the "faulty" device, I could see that the user was still logged on and everything appeared normal, just no display even when an external monitor was added.

We eventually guessed that there was a driver conflict with the remnant of the old version of Impero and this new device's video driver (this was documented somewhere on Impero's knowledgebase) Creating a new package for Impero and rebuilding confirmed the theory.

NOTE: Not suggesting here that Impero is the cause of your problem, just recounting something that happened to us to add background.

I have very little constructive to add to this other than 'me too'.

Clicking the lock screen doesn't present the login screen, flicking the lock screen up doesn't present the login screen. Pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL work instantly.

OK so today it's back to normal! You can just mash any button you like and it asks for your password. We have literally changed nothing........

It's so weird. This has happened to one PC I use frequently for the last 3 months... Yesterday it was fine. Today I've been to 5 people who can't login without the 3 finger salute.

I recall a similar circumstance when students were trying to bypass network security and/or deliberately crashing stations repeatedly. However, the similarity is limited as it resulted in a change in display settings and didn't clear spontaneously.

I'm pretty sure it's nothing nefarious because these are infant school staff machines that nobody except other members of staff should have physical access to.
