ITeaTech Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Hi all, This is my first post so I apologise if I've put it in the wrong place. I'm having an issue with a smartboard 500 where it allows us to use the ink function but the cursor doesn't work with the pens. I've tried a few things such as updates and drivers but nothing is allowing the cursor to be used. If anyone has any ideas of steps to try please let me know as I'm struggling to fix this. Thanks for any help in advance [emoji3]
DrBeaker Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 I've struggled to get our 600 series SMARTboards working as is with Windows 10. Not sure about the 500 series. Have you checked the driver and SMART notebook app themselves?
ITeaTech Posted March 10, 2022 Author Posted March 10, 2022 Hi mhaddock, Thanks for the suggestions, I have tried them which is why I'm a little stumped haha. I'll log into another PC tomorrow and see if it has anything set up differently and if it does I'll set it up the same way

It will tell you if the Pena are working etc. We had loads of 600 series where the pen tray had simply failed. Replaced with a new one and was fine. This was nearly 4x years ago though. What cable are you using? USB directly or USB-Serial cable?
tmoon-mint Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 If its a 500 series it will be a USB-Serial cable. If you go into device manager you will probably find the drivers for the cable have an exclamation mark next to them. Is the status light on the board solid red instead of green? I managed to fix this in an infant school with really old boards by going into device manager, updating the drivers for the USB-serial cable and pointing it to the install directory for Smart. 2

Did the same on a 500 series myself, but that was on Windows 7. Didn't use them with 8/8.1 or 10 so not sure anymore.

This has sorted it, feel a little daft now - seems like an obvious fix that I'd overlooked haha! Thanks everyone for your help though

Thanks everyone for your help though Not at all obvious since you would expect the Smart installer to actually install the drivers it needs for the board to function! 1
ITeaTech Posted March 11, 2022 Author Posted March 11, 2022 Haha yup, can't disagree with that. Bloody SMART!
