Office 365 - free??

I have a problem

 

Mrs mikeprice and I both got new laptops in the last 2 years

 

Mine is an HP - perfectly OK but refurbished

Hers is a new Lenovo - more power bigger SSD and stuff - because

 

anyway - on mine I seem to have Office 365 - no idea why it just appeared when I first tried to access a document

 

On Mrs mikeprice's it is not there..

I have tried logging her in with an outlook email account like mine (we both use gmail normally) but that has mode no difference

 

I have checked and the WWW seems to say I must have a 'free' Office account - and I can share it - but when I look it seems to say I don;t have an account

 

 

anyone any ideas how I can get Office onto her laptop - even if it means loosing it on mine because I would be quite happy with LibreOffice

but 'apparently' LibreOffice is Totally Different and just doesn;t work - so I am told

Anyway, if you have an Outlook/MSN/Hotmail account you get the "Free" browser version of Word/Excel etc but thats about it, which depending what your wanting to use it for might be suitable (similar to Google giving you docs/sheets with your free account)

 

Think you need to have a proper licence for Office to activate these days for the client installation.. certainly nags me at home if it switches to my Outlook account instead of the works one.

Anyway - Yup - I have looked at the browser version and that isn;t what I have - no browser needed to access it

 

it seems like the proper version

 

but no account as far as I can tell - I presume it is linked to my hotmail account

 

anyway of transferring it to my wife's Laptop???

 

it does seem that I am missing something somewhere

In one of the Office Applications, if you go to File -> Account it should say the user it's signed in as.

 

If you click on the About button, it should say what type of licence activation has been used as well. For me here at work it's Shared Computer Activation

Just been poking around in Word 365

 

I went into the manage account section and it asked me to choose an email address and it asked me to choose an email address

my hotmail address was at the top

 

but the other one is not something I know about

 

 

as this is a refurbished laptop - that seemed to have been initialised when I got it - is it possible that somehow the previous owner's account has sort of kinda stayed on it??

 

or am I being daft - again??

Yes it looks like that BH at Blueyonder is the account it might have been registered to... so someone didn't do a full wipe and reinstall before you got it.

a bit worrying to be honest - how did it do that - and what else might be left!!!!

It's not unheard of, same can happen if you disassociate a Kindle Fire Stick without also doing the Factory Reset option. Next person can access any services you had signed in with.

 

I'd still check the About button to see how it thinks it's licenced. From the Account Screen, you can also select to log out/Forget the blueyonder account.

The blueyonder user may have access to some of your documents if they're syncing online.
