korifugi Posted January 3, 2025 Posted January 3, 2025 Back in the 80’s when I worked for BT, the keyboards and phones, were all sanitised monthly by a specialist cleaner that came round monthly. Was BT subsequently taken over by by Golgafrinchans??? 2
Dos_Box Posted January 3, 2025 Posted January 3, 2025 After a couple of hours work I think it came out ok... I used builders wipes, whiich you can get a big tub of for about £5 - £8 depending on where you get them - https://www.amazon.co.uk/EVERBUILD-WIPE80-WIPES-WONDER-100/dp/978801898X?crid=3KFCE7Q9CXBBU&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.ESfHUAHW9yYjfAePEK-9Ek5iwFxUIKoNJ56JCiJrvvqT0dXtXzhhabgcrkxXRaqqGSw3rsrXZXoxIdakEwpJGPEc3YhRuws6Yo3I8S77v1AGM8zT89FluwMF9_RoolsbBUubLaDzUNUfFt6ntb0ZbeiO8Y8ufHLa-bcnim5ls5K8sXcgZa36bXdTUcitpUwJ5kvnZIJ9KAYezR6uZNq7CosMPsOZ5zx874id2o4jG28HnfUeFm6S4L4FgaKr-7ilx9iCLkaA5ja49OCXxHxdZnPjLEcJPSwgHCiJdaDDrUAS1MagG48qJ74z4OOP7GUWovAyKhq4Du9sRC2jxPUQxcJu7CIzWSmx5wGNpZ9o8Ogdu0nn_M5-0trKv9B4YzKt9velJ5pnbAa6DK53rsJdvtF0_VRKpS9MziVr9hdtp0Dnuwqqss2Hg3-4I42CENu9.IR3kA2k_snMRd78plBCWy9vpT_tpVTweTuI20QuySk0&dib_tag=se&keywords=builders%2Bwipes&nsdOptOutParam=true&qid=1735917732&sprefix=builders%2Bwipes%2Caps%2C148&sr=8-26&th=1 2
JRA Posted January 15, 2025 Posted January 15, 2025 Once had a tech whose keyboard wasn't actually visibly that horrid but it had little red mites living in it. Despite this he actually took A FAIR BIT OF PERSUADING to get rid of it!
PotNoodleTech Posted January 15, 2025 Posted January 15, 2025 I was handed this the other day from a family member who told me that some keys didn't work correctly and it may need a clean... It's the stuff of nightmares! I used a paintbrush to dig out the worst of the dust\crud outside, and will get it stripped down properly tonight and the keys in to soak in some mild detergent. WTF just chuck that biohazard in the bin and they can spend £10 on a new keyboard.
Rob_D Posted January 15, 2025 Posted January 15, 2025 WTF just chuck that biohazard in the bin and they can spend £10 on a new keyboard. That's a Corsair K100 (I think), they're like £200 on amazon. I think it's worth a couple of hours work to clean up.

By the state of it looks like a gamers keyboard as well, they never leave their games units or chairs not even for food they just order it;)

Rob_D Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 I'm sure Dosbox is more than capable to telling them go-fish if he really did want to do it. All I'm saying is, let's not advocate throwing out expensive kit just because it's a bit crusty. Especially someone else's really expensive kit.
