TwistedHelixis Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 I seem to be going round and round different websites (mainly apple sites) trying to workout how I migrate our iPads from Configurator 2 to ASM. This seems to be their main page - https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/apple-school-manager/axm200a54d59/web under the section - Add devices from Apple Configurator to Apple School Manager 3. Is successfully assigned to and enrolled in an MDM server linked to Apple School Manager How do I do step 3. The school does now have Mosyle setup (not used yet). But this has been setup to auto enrol devices directly from ASM, so should I be trying to workout how to get the devices into Mosyle? Should I be following the steps further down the page? - Add iOS, iPadOS and tvOS devices with Apple Configurator 2 Should I be following some other steps? Very confused, as I am not used to Configurator or iPads. Thanks

Thanks When you add devices from AC2 to ASM it creates a placeholder for the device in ASM and will not automatically assign it to your MDM This fuller guide should help you. https://it-training.apple.com/tutorials/deployment-and-management/dm-0803_tt_manually-adding-devices-axm-ac2 1
TwistedHelixis Posted January 14, 2022 Author Posted January 14, 2022 Thanks for the link, which does make a bit more sense. On step 2, in the image it has - add to ASM, but I don't have that listed, just add to device enrolment program. Should I just select that and continue?
Dan2025 Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Yes that's DEP, which is built into ASM now. Any future purchases or recent iPad purchases you can get the supplier to add the devices to your DEP. They'd need your organisation id and you add their reseller ID into ASM. 1
TwistedHelixis Posted January 14, 2022 Author Posted January 14, 2022 (edited) So step 3 just lists, ' New Server'. Step 4 lists, Name and then a box for host name or URL. In the info it says to enter an enrolment URL. Where do i get the enrolment URL from? EDIT - it also says, if i dont know the url to enter the host name or ip Edited January 14, 2022 by TwistedHelixis
ColonelPanic Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 I'm not a Mosyle user (we use Intune as our MDM), but the URL is linked to the profile that we want to apply from our MDM. I believe yours should start with join.mosyle.com/xxxxxx
Koldov Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Yes, your MDM will have an enrolment URL. Can't help you with Mosyle, but our Meraki has this:
TwistedHelixis Posted January 14, 2022 Author Posted January 14, 2022 I GIVE UP AC reset the iPad, then failed to apply the policy created following the steps above and bombed out. I reset the iPad and added it back as a manged device in AC. Non of this is under warranty so not sure how I can get the help I need :-(
Koldov Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 (edited) Am I right in thinking that iPads over a certain age cannot be added to DEP/ASM...? How old are your iPads? For our older ones I enrolled them in Meraki manually (bit of a pain but we didn't have that many). Edited January 14, 2022 by Koldov
tmoon-mint Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 The iPads must support at least iOS 11 to be added to DEP (ASM) using Apple configurator. Enrollment URLs for Mosyle depend on how you have it configured. If you're using shared tablet carts this would be under My School > Shared tablet carts You can get the enrollment URL for use in AC2 by going to My School > Enrollment > Apple Configurator 2
TwistedHelixis Posted January 14, 2022 Author Posted January 14, 2022 The iPads must support at least iOS 11 I did check at the time, think it was on 12 or something like that. Why is it not possible to simple move the iPads from one Apple system to another Apple system without needing a third party system involved? I will have another go at some point. Is there literally no way of getting the iPads into ASM without AC. Would be much simpler to just wipe the devices and enrol them in ASM.
TwistedHelixis Posted January 17, 2022 Author Posted January 17, 2022 So I now know why they are not applying the Mosyle migration profile, it's now displaying an error at the end that the iPad is not supervised. Before I clicked on 'Prepare' in AC the iPad was listed as supervised. I can see during the process that the iPad gets wiped, it tries to apply my Mosyle bits and then fails. So I am new to this.... The only way I can see to make an iPad supervised is to apply a supervised blue print, problem is that I am not asked for a blue print when I hit 'Prepare', only a profile. Any ideas???
Koldov Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 I thought there was a tick box in the process for 'Supervise'. If you have that ticked, maybe as it is failing to complete it doesn't do that bit either?
TwistedHelixis Posted January 17, 2022 Author Posted January 17, 2022 I'm not at the school now, but seem to remember it did have a greyed out tick box with a tick, just like your image. I'll double check next time I am over at the school. Still not sure why I don't have that tick box above - 'Add to Apple School Manager' as an option.
Koldov Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 (edited) Oh no, that was just from the instructions in the link in a post above. I have connected one of our old iPads to the Mac-Mini and fired up AC2 and the wording is slightly different... When ticked it appears to have the same options appear though... TwistedHelixis Posted January 17, 2022 Author Posted January 17, 2022 Thanks, I'll let you know what I find later in the week.
TwistedHelixis Posted January 24, 2022 Author Posted January 24, 2022 Spent the entire day looking through the setup. Some iPads were in AC2, some had just been setup like home devices. Looks like someone else had tried to move the devices to another system at some point. All the iPads had multiple profiles assigned, some were really old with out of date wifi, proxy and cert settings. Anyway, cleaned things up, gave it another go at migrating to ASM via Mosyle and it worked. 1
