Have you tried using the automatic online driver search bit to see if MS has a newer driver for it?

Is the laptop reporting any errors in the device manager or is it just not outputting sound?

Installed the drivers for the chipset and used the lenovo automatic driver update to check drivers. Windows update has no drivers listed. Checked realtek for updated driver but none. The soundcard is listed under devices without exclamation mark but no sound. No events either.

What hair i have is less now......

That seems a strange one to me as I've done loads of rebuilds on the 300 N100's and I've never once had an issue with the audio drivers. It's possible that there could be a hardware issue at play here.

Cheers for all the help but i have been a fool..

when the lenovo care system update picks it us as a realtek, the support website says its a realtek, and it works with headphones but not the internal speakers....... the answer is its a soundmax and you need to install that driver instead..

wel i suppose it was fun trying to fix... . .
