StevenNT Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 Hi there, Hopefully I'm posting in the right section. Currently I'm using Yosemite Server backup to backup my physical servers to tape. This software is fairly old now and does not support LTO8 tapes for the new servers have bought. I'm trying to find a suitable replacement, I've looked at extending Veeam to backup physical servers as we already use it Virtual machine backups. But it want disk to disk backup before it can be sent to tape, this is currently not a workable solution. I have looked at backup Exec recently but this seem to want disk to disk as well. So I'm wondering if anyone has other recommendations that will backup direct to tape and ideally have a central console to view the current status of backup operations like Yosemite currently does. Thanks.

Davit2005 Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 (edited) I would not want to touch Backup Exec with a barge pole personally. We had both Veeam and Backup Exec before Veeam supported tape many years back. Have you thought about getting a synology or similar NAS as a disk storage for not a lot of money for a backups destination for the Physical servers then have these additionally on tape/immutable/offsite as a last resort in DR or ransomware event. Jus tie the synology/NAS access to the Internet down, update regularly and only enable features such as external access if you really need them, preferably not use remote/cloud access at all.
