Just a heads up for anybody using Classcharts writeback to SIMS.net

We mainly use synched accounts with Staff out of SIMS. But we also use a few manually created accounts, mainly for supply staff / other staff not directly employed by the school.

We've discovered that any comments made using a non synched account write back into SIMS.net using a default writeback teacher, set by classcharts, who isn't the person imputing the comment. We have 650+ negative and 15500+ positive comments attributed to a member of staff who hasn't recorded any of these.

I think this is a long-standing issue. We have not used it for over two years but when we were a large number of Acievement and Behaviour points were attributed to me even though I had no classes asssigned and don't appear on the timetable.

We raised it with their support but they didn't resolve it.

Caused a lot of issues for our pastoral team.

Did they ever explain why they used your name? I'm not having much luck with support.

Likely because he'll have been listed as the technical contact. This does explain why some of our ones were logged under my name in the past.... (All our staff have sims accounts but not by default)

Maybe, but I would bet it's buried in some document somewhere & I doubt you'll get anywhere with them on contesting it.

They're a bit of a weird company & the product is somewhat half baked (Like why on earth doesn't it automatically link to Office365 & who the hell doesn't allow you to send account details via email in this day and age?)

Data point in case it is useful:

Here the only way to get an IT account to any services is for HR to have completed your paperwork (DBS etc) and loaded you into the MIS, from there wonde/salamander pull/push their to third party services. Any supply teacher here for more than a week or so gets their own account.

(if they make it a week, we generally want them back and they go into the pool of people we trust to use regularly so them having an account is worthwhile.)

We do have a handful of generic accounts, but they too stem from data in the MIS, just to ensure consistency. Users of these accounts however generally rely on support from roaming SLT, HoDs or the lead cover teacher to report positive/negative behaviours attendance* etc.

*Where ever possible attendance (registers) are taken by an employee of the school or a trusted supply teacher rather than a short term cover.

GDPR and Safeguarding were helpful in the wider discussion that lead to how we handle staffing of cover lessons, of which the above is but a part.

Yes, it was something to do with it being an admin account. They didn't resolve it and as we moved to Edulink not long after we did not need to pursue it. Their support was not very good as I recall.
