Geobook 2E - replacing the screen

We've got a few of the Geobook 2E's from the DfE, of which 3 have cracked screens (careless students). I've found a replacement screen, but am struggling to take the casing off the laptop to get the old screen out. Has anyone else had to replace these screens / what do you do when you can't get the bottom of the casing off?Everything online about replacing screens suggests that once I've popped the cover loose, it should simply slide off at the bottom (laptop hinge side), but these don't.

 

I could ​maybe​ get the screen swapped out without removing that part, but that's where the ribbon cable is, so sliding that off / on a new one is going to be a huge amount harder if I can't take the cover off!

 

Does anyone have experience with these and some advice? Thanks in advance!

Seem to recall just taking the bezel off ( was taped on so difficult to get off ) and then the screen sat on 4 pins - unplugged hte ribbon , plugged it back in and stuck the bezel back on... i've got a couple of screens coming in this week to replace, so will update if it's different

I ended up emailing the manufacturer for an answer - am glad I did as I might have broken the laptop in frustration otherwise!

 

You have to take the back cover off - take off the back 2 pads, and the warranty sticker (typical) - then undo 12 screws on the back. This will give access to the screen hinges, which need to be undone (a further 6 screws), to lift the screen away from the laptop, which then allows the front bezel to lift away.

 

The original screen was taped to the bezel, to add a further complication! Plus the ribbon cable needs to be disconnected in two places.

 

It was a fiddly repair - far more than I'd expected, with two cables connecting the base to the monitor casing, and a lot of small screws - however, once I'd figured it all out, swapping in the new screen wasn't that hard, and putting it back together went fairly smoothly (note - when screwing the hinges back on, make sure you use the lower level holes - the two raised ones are to screw the back on again).

 

I've got 2 more to do, so now that I've done one I should be set for these going more smoothly!

I have a Geo2e with a broken screen could you advise me where you managed to get the replacement screen from please ? Am going to try and replace it myself before sending it in for a repair

No problem - I bought from ebay but the supplier is a firm called Microdream. The specs for the screen are IVO M125NWR3 12.5" HD Matte LED Screen Display 1366x768 30Pin - prices vary from around £20 for a refurbished screen (which I went for) to around £60 for a new one.

 

As a point of practice makes perfect, the first one took me ages to do, the 3rd one was done in half an hour, start to finish.

Good morning, I've been looking for solutions as to how to repair the screen. Your step by step instructions are very easy to understand but the link that you've posted for the replacement screen has been disabled. I also couldn't find it on the website from the actual company. It would really help if you could check if the screen replacement is still available.
