Office 2016 - Can't sign in to Office, or view templates, as non-admin user....

Hi,

Originally this stemmed from other users not being to "Open in app" from Teams - they'd try it on, say, an Office document, they'd be prompted for their Outlook 365 details, but then the content would be blank.

When they use File->Account and the "Sign In" button they're prompted for their details, but it doesn't sign them in, and just leaves it looking the same with the "Sign In" button.

When they use File->New they don't see the templates, and get "Sorry, we had trouble getting the featured templates and can't show them right now".

With an admin level account I can do both of those things.

I've set my staff level test account to use the same Smoothwall group as my admin level account, and that doesn't make any difference.

If I log into windows with my admin level account, and then sign in to office in Word using the staff level test account that works.

The Office 2016 group policy I have is applied to all users, including my admin level account.

I'm continuing to investigate, but wondered if anyone had come up with anything similar, and what solutions you might have found. (My Google searches haven't really brought up anything I've thought is relevant yet.)

Thanks,

Enbiggen.

Pretty sure they're phasing out office 2016 support. Try installing any available office updates.

Had this email beginning of Nov.

Final Reminder: As previously announced (MC229143 - December '20, MC274503 - July and MC288472 - September), to ensure that we meet performance expectations, we are updating the supported versions of Outlook for Windows that can connect to Microsoft 365 services.

Note: Effective November 1, 2021, the following versions of Outlook for Windows (starting with Outlook 2007, in a phased rollout), will not be able to connect with Office 365 and Microsoft 365 services.

Office 2016 (With the November 2017 Update, KB 4051890)

Ignore that. if it's working for an admin account won't be this issue.

I have vague memories of reading that email, but I think/thought it was referring to Outlook within the Office package, as opposed to, say, Office 2016 being able to sign in and access documents on Teams/Sharepoint?

Even more puzzling, I created a local user level account, and set it up to use the proxy. The other thing that isn't applying are the user policies from the domain. It was able to sign in, access the templates, and I was able to "open in app" from Teams.

I'm going to try creating a new Domain user in an OU with no user policies, see if that works, then add candidate user policies until it stops working - that will hopefully narrow it down. Does anyone have any additional troubleshooting ideas to try?

Cheers,

Enbiggen.
