Today is the day and the review embargo has now lifted and the first reviews are goine live. The results look impressive so far and hopefully will force AMD to drop their prices:

Possibly, although I am very happy to see Intel back in the game once more instead of re-hashing older designs.

Yup, as well as the heat it generates. My guess is they will adress that in the next gen. At least I'd hope they do!

But lets face it, these are the top end models. I'd guess that the lower end SKU's will be a lot more power friendly, at least I'd hope so!

I personally think the writing is on the wall for x86.... ARM will be the new king!

Problem with this new chip is the force of upgrade to a new motherboard (cheapest starting at $200) and the force of an upgrade to DDR5 ram.

Whilst the chip is good, and the cost competes with AMD - does the extra costs of added parts justify this chip compared to their 10k series?

Watching the Linus Tech Tips review of the chips (

) and I think the real winner here is the i5 12th gen K variant, seems to still be punching down on AMD but doesn't have as bad power draw or thermals as the i9. Still, absolute furnace and if you don't have top of the line Noctua-tier cooling or better, you probably won't get as good of a result as LTT did.

The power consumption still isn't close to AMD yet though.
