JordanT91 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 What's everybody doing about the requirement to have a phone number for each Apple ID? Previously I used to enter my work phone number but now it says I can't use it again. This is on accounts created the 'personal' way and through Apple School Manager. I'm a bit stuck, I can't think how I can get some new iPads set up!
Jamman960 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 (edited) Its only a requirement for staff apple ID's so we usually get the staff member to enter it during the setup process. Either that or I usually use my own(or my technician's ) mobile number's but haven't run into a limit as yet... might be a new thing Are you using managed ID's? Edited October 5, 2021 by Jamman960

What I've been doing for the last 6 years is creating an email address in our O365, creating an Apple ID with it and logging into an iPad with that. Our iPads aren't assigned to particular people. I have discovered that I can create managed IDs though Apple School Manager but the same problem appears, a phone number is required as soon as I log into the iPad with that Apple ID. I'm not sure what the limit is but I'm definitely not going to use my personal number. Not sure what the solution is...
howartp Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 For 5 years we've used my Senior tech's office number. When his eventually hit this fictitious limit about 12 months ago, we moved to my other tech's office number - but that ran out very very quickly so they've obviously brought the limit right down. We now have users (staff and students) use their own phone, or occasionally a parent phone. For the very rare one, where we know it's going to be a pain any other way, we use my office number - i've only got 2-3 on it so far.
Brimstone Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 1. What's the reason you are creating Managed Apple ID's? You can completely control what services can access a Managed Apple ID as long as you are an Admin, Manager or instructor in ASM. You can also link a Managed Apple ID with a Personal Apple ID.
