TMBS Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Hi Since coming back after Summer approx 40% of our Chromebooks are giving the following error when students log in: Profile error occurred Something went wrong when opening your profile. Some features may be unavailable This only happens on Chromebooks, not Windows devices using Chrome. I can't pin it down to specific models of Chromebooks, or Chrome version. The only issue I can see at the moment is that the Chromebooks with the error aren't pulling down all the extensions. Anyone else seen this? Thanks
colly72 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 We've had this when the local storage has been full or close to full. A powerwash sorted things out for us. 1
j224 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Another thread related to this problem, started a few days ago- http://www.edugeek.net/forums/cloud-services/224141-size-user-profiles-google-enterprise.html 1

j224 Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 This seems to have worked for use too! Thanks Yeah, it does, but you will probably find that it gets filled up again quite quickly.
Duke5A Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 Are these Chromebooks assigned to specific students? If they're communal there is a setting in the admin panel that removes profiles when Chromebook is shutdown. We used this for years and just recently had to turn it off when students were being assigned Chromebooks to take home when in-person school was shutdown.

I was told by Google that that setting wasn't recommended to keep turned on.
mikes Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Just noticed this after summer too, it's a local storage thing for me too. It was stopping users from using the clipboard properly which was hampering lessons as they take screenshots and put them into word documents. Having to powerwash or clear the local storage from every one of our 400+ devices would be a nightmare especially if it fills up just as quickly.

Thanks
j224 Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Can you point me towards this setting? Thanks It's in Google Admin > Devices > Chrome > Settings > Device Settings > 'User Data'. But Google says this about it: Note: By default, Chrome OS devices encrypt all user data and automatically clean up disk space when shared by multiple users. This default behavior works best for most deployments and ensures data security and an optimal user experience. We recommend you enable Erase all local user data rarely and selectively. So, with that turned off, the hard drives should not be getting completely full, but they are.
jlyle29 Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 We are experiencing this same issue, started sometime after summer break. Enabled the "erase all local user data" to see whether this helps
paulkerton Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 Enabled the "erase all local user data" to see whether this helps Enabling this limits a profile size to half the RAM capacity of the device being used. So 2GB on a 4GB machine 4GB on an 8GB machine etc. We limit what extensions students can have, and we don't use Android apps, so that keeps us within limits with this for most things. You just have to be aware of that if you enable it.
