2019 Version Numbers

Good morning all,

 

Could I check 2019 version numbers with you all please? We are currently running Server (DataCentre) 2019 version 10.0.17763.2183 (1809 Release)

 

Is there a newer release version (above 1809) that includes the desktop experience?

 

All my downloads seem to show Core only.

If you want a version if Windows Server which is higher that 1809 and has the desktop experience, you need Windows Server 2022. 2019 is based around 1809, 2022 is based around 21h2 I think.

 

The Windows Server releases you're looking at are in the Semi Annual Channel, which is Core only and IIRC is going away anyway. Turns out people didn't want to update their servers every six months. Who knew?

@Norphy - That's a gutter. Not sure my servers will run that. HP380Gen8 :-(

 

Not upgrading hardware for a few years whilst there is still life in these.

I don't think the hardware requirements for 2022 are much if any higher than they are for 2019. It's still based on the Windows 10 codebase, not Windows 11 so there aren't any odd TPM or CPU requirements. The driver stack is the same. I'd be fairly surprised if they couldn't run it, Xeon 2600 v2 series CPUs are still fairly reasonable.

 

In any case, I wouldn't worry about it; Server 2019 is in mainstream support for another ~2 years and will receive security updates until 2029. You're not keeping those servers for another 8 years are you?
