Koldov Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 As per the title... Any ideas on how to deal with this? I need to install Outlook on a client machine whilst they are working remotely, I go to change the Office installation and the screen goes black. I presume it is the Admin prompt?

No, I think it's by design.
michaelf Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Assuming of course you have administrative rights on the machine, I've found that using "run as different user" will still blank the screen, but instead of asking for a username and password just shows a yes/no choice the user at the other end can click on. I tend to use this trick to open a powershell prompt, then whatever it is from there. You could also consider the registry changes mentioned here, but do bear in mind the risks associated with disabling any of the security features built into the OS. https://oliverkieselbach.com/2020/03/03/quick-assist-the-built-in-remote-control-in-windows-10/ 1
bald_pig Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Yeah, you need to run quick assist as admin in order to get UAC prompts. In this situation I'd be using the runas command to bypass the UAC prompt.
Koldov Posted September 24, 2021 Author Posted September 24, 2021 No, I think it's by design. Yeah, I can understand it as a security feature - I've read about 'Secure Desktop' and spoofing UAC etc. Ultimately 'QA' isn't supposed to be an Enterprise support tool after all... So "run as different user" seems to work in as much as I can open say the 'Control Panel' as Administrator and go to 'Add/Remove Programs' click on Office then 'Change' to do the Outlook install and it hits me with the prompt again... so black screen...
