Expanding a Thick provisioned LUN - ReadyNas

We've got a problem with running out of space on our backup NAS (a ReadyNas 3312), we have some free space on the NAS itself (3.82 TB free) but the LUN has been thick provisioned to 34.355TB and therefore won't let me expand any further than that. Am I understanding this correctly.....the only way to expand the LUN is to delete it (and lose all the backup data) and re-create it???

If it is thick provisioned you should be able to expand the LUN. Howver, if the LUN is sitting on a volume where it's maxed out and the LUN somewhat matches the size of the volume, then you won't be able to increase it.

 

Either add more storage to the volume so that you can expand the LUN or move the LUN to another volume where it has the capacity.
