type here to search not working for programs

Hello.

 

I’m having an issue whereby teachers cannot use the type here to search function on the bottom left hand side of the screen to search for programs.

 

If I logged into the computer as systemadmin and search for Word the Word program come up which it doesn’t happen for the teachers.

 

They have roaming profiles and the app data is redirected to the server as well.

 

The issue is only started when we changed the server from win 2008r2 to 2019.

 

Any idea what it could be?

 

The document search works fine, it seems to be only programs affected.

What GPOs are in effect on your users? There are some settings which may be in effect:

User Config > Policies > Admin Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar > Do not search for files | If this is not enabled, then searching for files will work (as per your document search)

User Config > Policies > Admin Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar > Do not search programs and Control Panel items | If this is enabled then no programs will show up.

 

Chances are you system admin account is not affected by these user policies, so the search works.

I definitely not set these gpo's and I'm the only administrator for the school.

Pretty much the exact same thing happening here - except it wont even show results from the search bar when logged in as local administrator. I ran the de-crappifier PS script when setting these up & creating the original image, so I wonder if that's deleted an essential service etc.

 

Going to try building a Win 10 station without running the script and connect to domain to rule out a GPO causing it
