Sue Perkins confirmed as new host for Just a Minute

On the one hand, she did a good job as a guest host and I think she's a good choice for the role. On the other hand, she was always an excellent contestant and it seems a shame that she can't do that any more.

 

It's going to be a tough ask to carry on the job after > 50 years of Nicholas Parsons but I think that if anyone can do it, she can.

Hmmmm... I'm not sure how I feel about that. On the one hand, I didn't think she was great as a guest host, but I'd rather her than Paul Merton (who was rubbish as a host) or Giles Brandreth - both of whom are better contestants. It may have been a better idea to get someone who hadn't previously appeared on the show.

 

No one will really be able to follow Nicholas Parsons, though, in the same way that, while I quite like Jack Dee, ISIHAC just isn't the same without Humphrey Lyttleton.

The first episode with Sue Perkins as the permanent host is now on BBC Sounds. I listened to it last night.

 

Considering it's only her second go at it, I think she did pretty well. It's a good start for her. There isn't quite the rapport between host and contestants that there was with Nicolas Parsons but that's to be expected and will most likely come in time. She's not Nicolas Parsons but I don't think it'll take long for her to make her mark on the show and settle in.

I'm sure she'll settle in really well. It's the ideal job for her and though it's a shame she won't be a contestant I reckon she'll be great.

I was aprehensive when Sandi Toksvig took over QI from Stephen Fry, but she's more than settled into the role. I now prefer her as host I think.

She's dealt well with not being a contestant too and I'm sure Sue will do the same.
