Gsuite and moving domain

Hi everyone,

 

We are moving our websites to a new provider and also moving the domain addresses over.

 

We are heavy GSuite users and all our e-mail is @our domain.co.uk

 

I cant quite remember what I did last time but do I need to get MX Records from Google and place these on the new domain provider for my Email to still function?

I remember having to do this once but cant remember exactly the steps needed as until I updated MX records it killed our Email.

 

Can anyone reassure me and point me in the right direction?

If you've got access to your current DNS records on your current DNS provider, take a copy of all of those. Once you recreate all of those records on your new provider, stuff ought to just work, I'd have thought.

Go to the "Domains" section in Google Admin, add your domain and it will feed you the instructions as to what to do.

Just had a look on MXtoolbox and I have the following:

10	alt3.aspmx.l.google.com

10	alt4.aspmx.l.google.com

 

 

 

I assume if I add this to the new domain provider then this should be fine? It looks like the same records for one of our other domain that is linked to gsuite too.

Probably, but if you just goto https://admin.google.com/ac/domains/manage and then add your domain, Google will do the work for you!

My domains are already listed there as we currently use @ourdomain.co.uk with our current provider. All is well.

It doesnt let me change anything tohugh from there.

Looks about right although you seem to have each one twice. Google will list what MX records you need on Admin > Apps > Gmail > Setup and you can also click through using the "MX setup instructions" link on that page to see some more detailed instructions for specific domain name hosting providers, if that's helpful.

 

As well as MX records, you'll likely need DNS records for SPF (https://support.google.com/a/answer/33786?hl=en), DKIM (Admin > Apps > Gmail > Authenticate email), DMARC (https://support.google.com/a/answer/2466580?hl=en) and any custom URLs or domain verifications that you might have in place (https://support.google.com/a/answer/112037?hl=en). I reckon those should be okay to just be copied over from any current values and still work once your domain name is transferred and the new DNS hosting takes over.

As everyone else has said, do the verifications and setup the MX records on the new domain name providers DNS bit and you're good to go

We are changing domain too, just thinking about how to update all users email addresses, is this done automatically by Google? I'm guessing then [email protected] becomes their alias? I'm hoping it's not a manual task to update each user one at a time!

No, aiming for 26/27 August.

Just wondering if anyone knows how long it should take to work..... I switched domains over from one provider to REG-123 and have updated the MX records with Google Records.

Have emails not being delivered at the moment. It has been about 5 hours.

 

Have I missed something or am I not being patient enough?

 

Have also updated A records to Google and DNS name servers are currently set to Reg-123.
