How to remove gsuite user profile pics?

Hi everyone,

 

We use GSuite and our users are constantly changing their profile pics to photos that are not school friendly or are offensive.

 

Does anyone know if there is a way of disabling profile pics from gsuite users?

Here's a way to do it using the PSGSuite PowerShell module.

 

#Requires -Modules PSGSuite

Get-GSUser -SearchBase /Students -SearchScope Subtree | Remove-GSUserPhoto -Confirm:$false -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue

I use gam (gamadv-xtd3) I actually update the photo to a common one to identify students

 

syntax is like gam ou "OU" update photo "path to image"

If you have GAM, you should be able to delete profile photos. It's listed as one of the commands for Gmail, but I'm guessing that's just because it's available via the Gmail API.

Thank you for reminding me to do my semi-regular "Has Pepe the Frog appeared?" profile photo sweep.

We generally want children to be able to express themselves, so we leave profile pictures available for them (at the moment, I know Bromcom were working on profile photo sync but I'm in two minds whether we should do that) but there are certain expressions of self that end up as a call for a little intervention!

Maybe have one day a year of approved self-expression, followed by 364 days of locked profile photos. Any profile photos not up to muster and summarily removed on day 2 and the user must spend an entire year thinking about what they've done befroe getting another chance.

Another reason I had for removing the profile photo pictures was with safeguarding and privacy.

These can be seen by anyone on the net and if we don’t know who has and who hasn’t uploaded a picture (which could even show a bit of flesh at times) it’s worth locking them down.

We have been contemplating it with Bromcom's upcoming sync capability, but as has been previously mentioned, Google profiles are publicly visible, so we'll probably keep it switched off.

As mentioned, they are always publicly available, so it would be worse than a bad idea. You can't limit their visibility to just your domain, unfortunately. Even for staff, I'd say leave it as a voluntary option.

We let staff choose their own profile pics but now have disabled all profile pics for students.

 

Too much GDPR and concerns if photos got out as they are public view on user profiles.
