Remove Static IP settings in Google Admin

Hi

 

When our Chromebooks were originally set up we had to configure them with a static IP, which is not longer the case. I cannot for the life of me find out where this is configured in the Google Admin to remove!

 

On the Chromebooks it is set under Network - Configure IP address automatically and this cannot be changed on the Chromebooks.

 

I've looked under Devices - Network - WiFi in the Google Admin but there are not settings in there to remove static IPs and set to DHCP.

 

Rang Google and they're getting someone to ring back within 24 hours! I'm sure someone on here could answer quicker

Yes I had originally but I have deleted the reservations and the IP range excluded from distribution.

 

On the Chromeook it shows the icon showing that the static IP rule is set in the Google Admin and managed by the organisation. So I presume it's a setting in there?

 

We only have the 'Student' WiFi set in the Google Admin under Devices - Network. If I change it over to our staff WiFi on the Chromebook it is then not managed and can be changed... but I can't see any settings in the Student Wifi that specific static IPs?

I'm beginning to wonder now if it's worth setting the WiFi in the Google Admin? Though I think this locks it down so students can't change any network settings. The only article I've found is this one:

Nothing about settings in the Admin Console. We added these about 4 years ago and haven't touched since...

Our student Chromebooks have the wifi set in the Admin console - but they don't go offsite so don't need to change those settings.

 

I think you have the network managed by the console, but it's not setting the static address itself.

Ours don't go offsite either. We're with Schools Broadband and when we first had Chromebooks they had to set an IP range we used for them, I added each Chromebook to a reservation in DHCP using their mac address and gave a static IP. I've now deleted those reservations in the DHCP which should release the IP? Is there a time period for this to pull through?

Yes but they've kept the same IP.

How long is the lease set to?

You might want to try chrome://net-internals/#dns and flush the host cache.

Lease is set to 8 days. I presume there is no way of releasing it on a Chromebook? But it will pick up a new IP when the lease ends.

 

I clicked on the flush host cache button but it didn't seem to do anything...

 

Still waiting for Google to call!
