we use Unicheck, was out before G Suite's own one (and it integrates) and was cheaper. Teachers seems to like it

Thanks, I didn't know that existed. It seems pretty good. I gave it a document which started with a direct lift from Wikipedia, which it obviously found, but also copy-paste jobs from a few less common websites. I also took the text from one of those websites and re-worded it slightly, which it also detected.

Thanks. That's limited to 1500 words at a time, so it isn't ideal in bulk but it works okay for checking a single piece of work.

I don't think the limit exists if you upgrade though.

Again, its a case of balancing up the budget and working out if the Classroom integrated one's premium features (unlimited, peer-to-peer checking) and all the other things you get with Education Plus (like the extra features in Meet, the extra storage per user) costs less than buying a stand-alone checker. It usually does.

 

And let's face it, Google Search and Scholar APIs are in the backend of all the third party checkers anyway!

We're currently moving away from Google to Office365 (and Google are blocking us from Scholar because our network "may be sending automated requests"), so for us it probably doesn't. Point taken, though.

 

The peer-to-peer checking certainly caught my eye when I was reading up on Google's checker. Do you know roughly what the premium costs?

£3.20 per student per year if you're licensing the whole school.

If you just want to license staff with the "Teaching and Learning Upgrade" its £2.25 per "faculty member" per month.

Very quickly, it becomes cheaper to just license the whole school.

Those two prices are basically the same for us, assuming "faculty member" means "staff member" not "teacher". Definitely more money than we would spend on this though, as even if we only licensed Years 10-13, I suspect it would be cheaper to buy a different plagiarism checker.
