Queen Mary’s College is seeking to appoint a dynamic, problem-solving, suitably qualified and experienced individual as a Software Developer. The site is set on a beautiful multi-use area in the heart of Basingstoke, covering approximately 25 acres. Its educational facilities range from state-of-the art teaching facilities built in the last few years to buildings that were original to the Shrubbery School first established in the 1950s. The College operates a commercial theatre, Central Studio, and Sports Centre.

 

The ideal candidate for this role will be someone who can demonstrate their technical experience in this particular field and is enthusiastic at delivering great customer service to tight deadlines. Working in this environment requires good organisational skills, clear and strong communication, a positive ‘can-do’ attitude, good attention to detail and an analytical approach to working. The suitable applicant is a person who can work as part of a team and has a clear head working under pressure.

 

Purpose of Job:

 

  • To significantly contribute to the development of the College’s in-house web-based student information system “Vista”, including enhancements, new features and day to day maintenance.
  • To stay informed and knowledgeable of the latest statistical datasets for use in target setting and performance analysis.
  • To be proficient in the use of SQL server and reporting tools to support the College’s statutory data returns and internal management reporting.
  • To support and develop college modelling tools including timetabling with a high skill level in the Microsoft Office toolset especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Maintain, develop and support the core College student records system (Pro-Solution).

  • Maintain and develop existing College SQL databases
  • Development and maintenance of the College web-based information systems
  • Maintain and develop the College’s timetable modelling system
  • Provide information and reports for members of the College
  • Ensure that the College’s student database is current and fit for purpose

 

Person Specification:

 

The person appointed will be able to demonstrate some or all of the following:

 

Experience:

 

Essential

 

  • Microsoft Office 2010
  • Macro scripting with Visual Basic for Microsoft Office
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2016
  • Structured Query Language (SQL) and relational databases
  • Designing and maintenance of Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) Packages
  • Web Development using Microsoft Classic ASP (VB), JavaScript and HTML
  • Adobe Dreamweaver CS5
  • Reporting Writing with Microsoft Reporting Services
  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2010

 

Desirable

 

  • The processes involved in running a large provider of education and training
  • The Further Education sector
  • School or College administration systems
  • Web Development using the Microsoft .NET framework or PHP

[TD] Salary is paid at point 23 of the Sixth Form Colleges Support Staff pay scale, currently £32,755 per annum (37 hrs per week, and full year)

 

E.g. 22 hrs worked term time amounts to approximately £17,704 per annum

 

This role is term-time only including 2 additional weeks. It includes paid INSET days, annual leave is included in overall pay and leave is to be taken during the school holiday periods.

Please note with the exception of hospital appointments, routine appointments are expected to be made in your own time.

It is common practice for staff to attend staff meetings and other meetings essential to their area of work.

 

The successful candidate will have the choice whether or not to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. The College contributes a monthly sum equivalent to 19% of your salary, whilst staff at this salary level contribute 5.8%

 

Staff are entitled to the benefits of the nationally agreed sickness and maternity leave schemes

 

The Corporation has adopted the national recommendations on terms and conditions of employment as agreed by the National Joint Council for Staff in Sixth Form Colleges. Other terms and conditions have been determined in the form of local agreements.

Because of the nature of the College’s work with young people and vulnerable adults, all College staff are required DBS clearance. Confirmation of any job offer is conditional upon the outcome of your Disclosure application.
