SIMS DMS Backup Size

We're currently doing an export of our SIMS DB and DMS for a MIS migration.

 

If I look at the size of our DMS from file explorer we're up over 100Gb.

 

Using DBAttach to do the backup the DMS only comes out to 15Gb.

 

The folders within go: 00, 01, 02....0a etc. The folders on the original go up to "ff". The backup highest folder is "3f"

 

This has happened on multiple backups. Does anyone know why it only backups a certain amount?

Is it because the files in the Document Management server are not backed up with that database, they are physical files.

 

It may be worth going to Tools > Housekeeping > Document Management Server > Maintain Orphaned Documents to see if there are a lot there which need clearing up.

That would be my guess too. For a 15GB database with ~100GB of documents, the cleanup routine likely* hasn't been run for a long time. It can take a while on a relatively well-maintained document server.

 

*I mean, provided no-one's attaching large word docs full of photographic evidence to student records.
