Teams end of year

Can someone explain to me the end of year process for Teams I have looked at this Microsoft document but I'm still a bit vague.

 

As I understand it we should use a Sync profile for one academic year and then create a new one for the following year. The instructions seem fairly straight forward for this:

 

1. Set an expiry date
   
2. Mark classes expired
   
3. Archive the teams
   
4. Create a new profile
   

 

As I understand it this creates brand new Teams for the classes, the Teacher can then copy material from their old classes to the new classes as required. This is perfect for courses that run for one year.

 

How do multi year courses work? Can these Teams be carried over or is the first year of the course archived and the previous years work only available from the archived team?

Lots of people have viewed this post, but no response. I have reworded my question below in the hope of clarifying my question.

 

How GSCE and A Level courses work?

 

Can we keep the existing group and make SDS continue to sync this group or do we have to use a new Team each year and keep the old one as read only for the previous years work?

Working on how Salamander does it (which is via SDS) every year, every subject is a new team regardless - multi-year courses would then just need the relevant resources copying from the archived team to the new.

The simple thing is to keep the same SDS profile and move the expiration date back, but I'm not sure how you then selectively expire the courses that you do want to get rid off.

You'd also have to make sure your courses keep the same name year-on-year so the sync continues to match and you don't get the new Y7 English class winding up in last year's Y7 English team.

We did this the first year before going to Salamander. Massively regretted it, caused HUGE issues with duplicate classes and mess everywhere It's not the most intuitive of systems.
