Word Processor Provision for Exams

Just a quick question re the format of exam documents created for access arrangement students...

 

Currently we use Word 2016 for the provision of a word processor in exams or students with various access arrangements. Using the settings / GPO's listed in in another thread to lock down Word, it works pretty well.

 

I've been recently asked to enforce a 'standardised' format - font type / font size / line spacing - and pagination in a specific format.

 

The question that is niggling me is is this an exam board stipulation or just a predilection of the school admin team?

 

Naturally I'm not an expert on all matters exams, but I can't see ANY exam board stipulating a particular font and line spacing etc

 

Any of you guys care to offer any thoughts?

If you are willing to think about alternatives to Word (although it is currently working well for you) have you had a look at ExamWritePad?

@ass17 has been able to, in the past, include feature requests. Our Learning Support team took to it as soon as I showed them.

Hi Karl,

 

Exam boards do indeed use the specifications as set out by the JCQ. This does include, line spacing, font face, font size etc.. But is not set in stone and no paper would be disqualified unless it was totally unreadable. These details are set out in the access arrangement guidance that your exams officer should be well versed on.

 

ExamWritePad can accommodate all those things in the config file and much much more!

as @ass17 said above, the guidelines are in JCQ's terracotta book for Access Arrangement candidates. I have set up a read only Word template with this formatting that is on every exam laptop that we use. Students enter their details eg name, date, exam number etc before starting the exam and save the document with their name.

I'm disappointed you don't use ExamWritePad, but what ever works for you is fine, I'm all for healthy competition lol :-)

apologies @ass17, it was only in the last proper exam season that we had that we changed from WordPad, and this was the quickest I could come up at the time. With no exams going on, I might have a look into ExamWritePad
