Dell Optiplex 7010 Turning off by itself

One of the Dell Optiplex machines wasn't turning on properly this morning. When I pressed the power button, the machine turned on for about 3 seconds and before it POSTed, it turned off again. I turned it on again and it stayed on but there was no output to the monitors. After forcing the machine off and then back on, it turned on fine. Once the machine is on, it's okay. It's just starting up which seems to be the issue. I'm not entirely sure what the problem is. I'm thinking power supply. It's a 5 year old Corsair VS350. This has been happening for a while now.

 

Any thoughts?

The 7010 should have inbuilt diagnostics that you can run.

 

It might not find the problem but it should rule out a lot of things for you at the least.

 

You can find the diagnostics bit in the boot menu (F12 on startup)

I had this with a laptop once and it just turned out to be a sticky power button. Basically I pressed the button to turn it on, the button stuck in so of course the laptop took it as though I was holding the power button down and turned it off again.

Thanks for the info. I ran the diagnostics not long ago however, it always passes with flying colours.

The computer stays on once it's finally got going. I will have a look at the switch and make sure it's not that though.

Gonna probably put together a new computer soon. Most of the OEM ones now have proprietary PSUs, weird form factors, etc and I don't want that!

 

So far considering these parts:

 

Case: CIT CLASSIC MICRO

MB: ASROCK H410M-HDV

CPU: Intel Core i3-10100

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 8

Storage: SSD (already have)

PSU: Already have

 

How does everyone go about activating Windows 10 on their personal computers? I have always had OEM ones which automatically activate.
