C# Book

So, I played around with C# a bit and liked it. I am using the C# express edition as I can not afford Visual Studio and I was wondering what do you guys think of the book at Amazon.co.uk: Beginning Microsoft Visual C# 2008 (Wrox Beginning Guides): Karli Watson, Christian Nagel, Jacob Hammer Pedersen, Jon D. Reid, Morgan Skinner, Eric White: Books

You need to authenticate to prove you're a student and this is generally done using Shibboleth.

 

If this isn't available, does your school/college have the MSDN academic alliance licenses? If so and you're on an appropriate course then you are also eligible for the software for free.

I have been using that book lately as part of my HND studies- it's a good one!

I selected UK but my school is not on the list.

I like the SAMS series of books and the one I have on Java is pretty good. Microsoft also have a handful of official books and if the size doesn't put you off they're very detailed. C# isn't that hard to pick up so you should be fine with any half-decent book.

I have the wrox book, and I don't like it

 

there is a good free book from microsoft called "Microsoft Visual C# 2005 Express Edition - Build a Program Now"

 

also, for uni I have Deitel - C# How to Program (VBL) but it's not for the faint hearted, expensive but totally authoritive!

Unfortunately, that means that your school probably hasn't got a Shibboleth identity system set up.

 

MS launched this initiative which depends on Shib but don't seem to be doing anything to support setting it up for schools and colleges (it's quite fiddly!)

That's fine.. I've got VS on a PC and VSE on a laptop and having written lots of seriously geeky code there a) are no projects I can't pick up and move between them, b) is nothing I've needed to do that I can't do just as easily on VSE.

How about 'Fundamentals of Java programming' after all c# is really just a java clone

I have allot of books here on PC aimed at C# and visual studio and various other launguages. all in PDF.

 

anyone wants to grab them let me know.

i prefer the microsoft press books! really nice, slowly moves through the diffrent things..i recommend!
