TheRobins Posted March 12, 2021 Posted March 12, 2021 Morning all, I am moving over to Bromcom from SIMS over the coming months. Looks a great package especially with its O365 integration, has to be better than that awful SIMSID. However one function I will loose which is lifeline for me is my ability to create AD accounts automatically based on information from SIMS. I use Burconix user manager, which is brilliant for SIMS user, start of new term deletion of old staff and students and creation of new is done in 2 minutes. It creates the logins, set's up security groups as well as Home Drive file shares. Burconix do not support Bromcom so wondering if Bromcom has support for this, or does anyone else use any user management tools. Thanks,
paulkerton Posted March 12, 2021 Posted March 12, 2021 I'm not entirely sure that my experience from the Google side helps you with AD, but we've had huge success with the Google Sync tools and user creation. It's made our lives much simpler. Creation, suspension, pushing the timetabling to Calendar and Classroom. It really has made it easier for staff and students when children arrive, have their timetables change, or leave. Even just having "Sign in with Google" has been a massive help! Is there anyway to sync and create AD accounts from O365 at all? So Bromcom could create the O365 accounts, then O365 inform your AD? I'm not familiar with that side any more.
CHiLL Posted March 12, 2021 Posted March 12, 2021 I can't recommend SalamanderSoft enough for automating user accounts from the MIS system. We have SIMS, though according to their page, they also support Bromcom.
TheRobins Posted March 12, 2021 Author Posted March 12, 2021 Thanks Paul, we are O365 here and use their AD sync into Azure. Not sure our current licencing allows write back into AD but I know it wouldn't support user groups and file share creation. However I am also looking at Iamcloud to move our home drives into O365 anyway by mapping onedrive, which could do away with the requirements for AD file shares.
supportman Posted March 12, 2021 Posted March 12, 2021 We use salamander here as well with Bromcom, works great! Cheap and once setup it just works No issues with the licensing once setup. Bromcom do have a new solution but it only works with office 365 and not onsite AD.
TheRobins Posted March 12, 2021 Author Posted March 12, 2021 Thanks, just sending Salamander an email as we speak. Seems to be the general view that its the best route to go.
