OneDrive as Home Folder Education Environment

We're trying to come up with a solution to make our Macs workable in a school environment. Saving documents to an individuals folder locations has caused some problems with the Macs we have in the past.

Is there a way to set the OneDrive folders of the users as their home folder on MacOS? For reference, we're using Catalina.

We're using Mosyle as our MDM.

I don't believe so. All our users are using OneDrive for their files, for iMacs they're told to launch the OneDrive App (which is pinned to the dock for all our users) and sign into it, their school files will then be available from within the OneDrive folder in Finder. They're told that files located in any other folders are local to just that iMac and are not backed up.

It can be done, but it’s not easy and not designed for an environment where students moved around to different places a lot. You need to have them log in and configure OneDrive by signing in, then have a second script on next login for the redirects.

Not too bad if users generally use the same devices in that classroom every time, but a real hassle if they have to login twice every time they use a new device.

Not a chance whatsoever if you are trying to use either Garageband or iMovie or even Logic or FCP.

Students need to learn how to back up their files.

Students? Learn something? In a School? Are you quite mad? ;)

Yeah have to agree, even with using OneDrive with Microsoft PCs in a school environment I have caught people save files and immediately try to log off! Now if you put that with apps such as the ones Brimstone has stated they is no chance they are going to get the the cloud.
