Protec Posted February 16, 2021 Posted February 16, 2021 My current main PC is getting on a bit now. It's a Dell Optiplex 7010 from 2013! Specs: CPU: i3 - 3240 RAM: 16GB DDR3 HDD: 2 x 500GB SSD: 120GB GPU: Asus GTX 750 Ti (connected to 2 x 1080p monitors) PSU: Corsair VS350 It's served me well over the years, but I think it's time for an upgrade. I mainly use it for streaming video, storing files, office software, occasional video editing and running VMs. The current specs are about good enough for my use however, it's starting to get a bit unreliable hence my need for a new PC. I'm on the fence between building it from scratch or buying a newer OEM PC and upgrading it. Any have any recommendations on specifications too?
ICTDirect_Dave Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 How about a 12-core Xeon workstation with 8GB Quadro Graphics and 32GB DDR4 ECC RAM? I've done a bunch of these lately and they're always really popular
dmj Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 I think the best value machine at the moment is an ARM64 mac mini M1. 8GB, 256 SSD 8 core CPU, 7 Core GPU for £580 The benchmark speeds on these things is insane for their price. and a 4 year warranty! https://www.theedustore.co.uk/mac/mac-mini/mac-mini-apple-m1-chip-with-8-core-cpu-and-8-core-gpu-256gb-ssd-4-year-warranty
dobbyit Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 I am wondering the same but I’m after a refurbished laptop or a surface pro not sure which to get.
