Impact Cashless Catering - consolidate to one server?

Hello Edugeek,

 

We are using Impact alongside SIMS, Biostore and Tucasi Online Payments:

 

 

1. A physical machine in the kitchen that holds the Impact database and Tucasi sync.
   
2. A virtual server that has the MIS sync and Biostore/IDstore database.
   

 

Everything is Windows XP and I am looking at upgrading, at the very least, the physical box to Windows 10 as it accesses the Internet. I was wondering if it's also possible to consolidate both into one server?

 

Has anyone managed to achieve this or any reason why they need to be separate? It would be much easier for us to backup and restore if they were both virtual.

We did this.

 

also had the same setup as you before. We upgraded to cunninghams "fusion" and everything is now self contained on a physical "kitchen server" (high spec client pc).

 

This has bitlocker enabled and backups as per another server does here.

 

Cunninghams did this for us after we provided a computer/os/AV software. there was cost for the migration.

Hi Jaan, I managed to move everything onto a Server 2019 VM but it's only the latest version of Impact not the newer Fusion I believe. Does Fusion still use Biostore?Summary of what I did:

 

Impact

 

1. Copied Impact folder from physical to new server.
   
2. Ran service install bat files in Impact folder: Impact Internet Payments, Impact Query Service and Impact DataServer.
   
3. Updated impact.ini for new backup path.
   

 

Biostore

 

1. The Biostore Primary and Express installers kept erroring (something about permissions) so I just manually extracted and then copied the files into the relevant locations (program files, control panel items in system).
   
2. Normally you would install Biostore Primary for database and Biostore Express for Secondary, Client, IDManager, IDStation and IDBrowser (Biostore update exe won't work without IDBrowser). You will need your licenses and site code. I found ours on old server.
   
3. Exported Biostore service registry keys from old machine and them imported them. Only did this because installer wouldn't run for me!
   
4. Configured all Biostore programs to match old server.
   

 

Network

 

1. Gave the VM two network adapters and reused old IPs. We had the Biostore server on one VLAN but the kitchen machine was on another which the Reval units and tills point to.
   

 

MIS Sync

 

1. Copied across MISLink folder and SIMS.
   
2. Modified MISLink .ini file for new drive letter.
   
3. MISLink uses SIMS reports and must be able to resolve your document server address. This one caught me out because new server isn't domain joined.
   
4. Exported & imported the scheduled tasks for Biostore update and MISLink.
   

Unfortunately the tills and revals are still XP but they don't touch the Internet. Maybe I could upgrade those in the same way!

Fusion doesn't need BioStore no. It uses IDstore instead;

 

I seem to remember we needed the new till as we had old epos XP machines didn't meet the requirements of fusion

 

here's a convo i had with cunninghams about this;

 

 

 

The engineer called me earlier asking about the new server (high-end client PC), if everything was to be migrated on to this machine. I believe he’s making a head start installing the backend

 

iDstore is our own software which replaced Biostore and does essentially the same thing, but we have more control. I’ve checked our central system and don’t have Biostore listed as an asset any more, I assume this was removed when the school was updated to iDstore.
