Apparently Bella Ramsey's GoT co-star Maisie Williams was also in the running for Ellie, as was Booksmart's Kaitlyn Dever who really looked the part.

 

 

 

Both got "too old" (KD is now 26). Mind you, Bella Ramsey is already 19!

Just read a heartbreaking fan theory about show Sam.

 

In the morning, when Ellie wakes up, he is facing away from her. The theory is that, before he turned, he realised that the "blood cure" might not work and so chose to sit like that while he was still capable of making such decisions. That way Infected Sam wouldn't be able to see Ellie and his deafness would mean any sound she might make wouldn't alert him to her presence .

Kaitlyn Dever has made it to the show, as she's been cast as Abby for Season 2: https://deadline.com/2024/01/the-last-of-us-kaitlyn-dever-cast-abby-season-2-1235699790/ In the two films I've seen her in ("Booksmart" and "Rosaline") she hasn't struck me as an "Abby" type, but I'm guessing she'll be hitting the gym before filming! I hope she's got a thick skin as the trolls must already be straining at their muzzles.

I'm looking forward to seeing how they adapt the second game, though a bit worried by the "might take two seasons, might take more" announcements which seem more "how long can we milk this for?". I did find that the "revenge is bad, m'okay?" message of Part II was OTT, leaving the player no choice but to follow certain paths/do certain things. Hopefully as it isn't "you" doing those things, the show won't seem as straight-jacketed.

 

Kaitlyn Dever is interesting casting as Abby, as I've only seen her playing "nice" characters. I assume she'll have been hitting the gym and, hopefully , have received some sort of counselling/advice on coping with the poop that will rain down on her for the stuff her character gets up to.

While Kaitlyn Dever doesn't look (in those brief shots) as built as Abby, she's certainly got the facial expressions.
