LeMarchand Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 OK, odd one. One site is reporting that if they use Chrome on Windows laptops they can't access Drive, Meet or Classroom etc (and Marvellous Me) but other sites are fine (so not a proxy problem?) and everything is OK on Edge (so a Chrome problem?). Chromebooks seem fine, as do the servers and office machines (so not a filter problem?). Plugging an affected machine into the network doesn't help. However, the office machines (wired) and the one server with Chrome all seem fine. Everything works as expected from my current site. Any ideas?
dhicks Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 One site is reporting that if they use Chrome on Windows laptops they can't access Drive, Meet or Classroom etc Vauge guess: are they logged in (with their school / other) Google account to the browser itself, not just a site / page inside the browser? If so, are there any proxy / filtering settings that take effect?
LeMarchand Posted February 10, 2021 Author Posted February 10, 2021 Signed into Chrome with school account. Yes to proxy and filtering, but same proxy and filtering apply to Edge. On site now (soon to feature in annoying things). I've just logged on to a laptop as a supply teacher and tried Chrome with my logon and a test pupil one - all works! Going to get one of the affected users to try...
LeMarchand Posted February 10, 2021 Author Posted February 10, 2021 Cracked it! After trying logging in to various machines as affected users with no ill effects I finally managed to get my hands on an affected machine and the problem turned out to be an extension (Kami). Once it was disabled everything was fine. Did get an apology from the person who was trying to blame a recent GPO change I'd made. 2

Ah - is this the Chrome extension that installs in the user's browser, not the Google Workspace Marketplace app than gives you an "Open with Kami" option from Google Drive? We're just looking at whether to push out the Kami Chrome extension (we've already rolled out the Workspace Marketplace app for staff over our domain), we could do with knowing what the problem was and if it's likely to cause us similar issues. 1

It was the web extension. Allegedly it didn't cause the same problem in Edge. Today was the first day this occurred so I guess it could have been broken by a Chrome update or a Drive/Filestream one. If I get time I'll test the app version tomorrow. I'd test the extension before deploying! 1
LeMarchand Posted February 11, 2021 Author Posted February 11, 2021 (edited) Deffo a problem with the extension as my other Google school has just been in touch and disabling Kami cured his problem. A different member of staff there says they have the same problem but not that extension - waiting for a reply on which one (if it's an extension problem). A new Chrome version was released on the 4th (as was a new version of the Kami extension) and Drive was updated on the 29th. Not got time to test further, I'm afraid. I've suggested trying the Workspace app but have yet to receive a reply. Edited February 11, 2021 by LeMarchand 1
dhicks Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 I've suggested trying the Workspace app Okay, good to know, thanks. I think the Workspace app is going to better fit the likely workflow of our teachers anyway - use the "open with Kami" option from a Google Drive folder with a bunch of resources in, then set a Classroom exercise from Kami's interface, none of that should need the Chrome extension.
