TMBS Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 Hi Has anyone else noticed when running a Meet with a class of students you can only see half of the class? The rest just show their profile photo, despite having their webcam on and other students being able to see them. I'm having this reported from numerous teachers and webcams popping on/off. Anything we can do? It would be nice to see the whole class! Thanks
Michael Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 Isn't there a hard limit when it comes to video sessions within Meet and Teams? Both support 200 odd, but not all video sessions. Most would be thumbnails or their initials only.

Have you check the Meet Quality Tool, that might tell you something. We've had something similar-ish sounding, where one pupil can't get video working - they can see their own video profile at their end, it just doesn't appear at the teacher end. The Meet Quality Tool reckons there's no video stream being sent, which leads us to guess there's something blocking the video stream client-side at the network level (firewall / parental filter application maybe?). TMBS Posted January 28, 2021 Author Posted January 28, 2021 I spoke to Google who said we were maxing out our Meet bandwidth and advised us to reduce the video resolution in the Meet: https://support.google.com/meet/answer/9302964?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en Spoke to Schools Broadband who confirmed we're maxing out our connection! The joys of all staff in school teaching via Meet! Thanks everyone!

Michael Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 Wow, I'm amazed it got maxed out, but just goes to show the things to come! Suddenly 1Gb+ WAN speeds don't necessarily seem unusual anymore!
