Changing Display Names in Google Admin

I want to change the display names of staff in our Google Admin. I changed mine yesterday and it's still not updated. I know I can change it via my own account settings, but I can't expect staff to do that, I should be able to update via admin and it role the changes out. Any ideas how long this might take to update?

How are your staff accounts populated in to Google Workspace? If you are synchronising them via GCDS or another tool, using your Active Directory as your source, then any changes you make in the admin panel will just get overwritten by the sync tool when it next runs.

 

If there is no sync in place, and it is all done manually, it should update within 24 hours (that's their default amount of time it takes for everything). In my experience though, it happens straight away.

Ha, syncing? As if!

 

All created within Google Admin when needed. I hadn't seen the 24 hours notice warning but makes sense. I applied an Enterprise license to my account last week, said it could take 24 hours and was working within 5 mins.

 

I'll have to hold out.

 

Just checked my test teacher account and that has updated at some point within an hour. I wonder if mine is taking longer as it's an admin?

Changed some other staff members and they updated within a couple of hours. Changed my own via my account page and it's worked. Not sure why mine did not pick up from being changed via admin, oh well!
