Not sure if this has been asked before, but I have a google home hub and had some music uploaded on it. As this is no longer available I followed the transfer of my uploaded music to Youtube music. But I can't play any music from the home hub. A quick google seems to show this is only available if you pay the subscription - meaning I can't play my Christmas playlist this year!!

Is this correct and if so what have you done to get around this problem? I really don't want to be paying a subscription to listen to music I've already paid for. Is this functionality now lost on Google home devices? I did read that Amazon allows you to play music bought through amazon without a subscription. Seems like a step backward by google if this is really the case?

you can play youtube music on a home hub (mine are al screen ones im not sure about the screenless ones) without a sub as i do but its way worse than google music. there are huge pauses between tracks (unless you do it as a cast session from a device). I converted my music from google music to youtube and it works but i wish i could go back to google music. i just ell at it ok google play playlist game music and it does work. you might need to use the home app and set youtube music as the default player though

I used Google play music and transferred all my music to YouTube music.

Lost all my playlists, can't access paid for music unless I have the subscription.

Bit annoyed but im half way getting my playlists back! Also subscribed to it so I get my music as I had a few hundred albums.

Going to hopefully download everything then get rid of the subscription

Thanks all. My preference is set to Youtube music but still doesn't work via the home hub. I have just tried the streaming from phone and that seems OK. But it was much better to be able to just speak into the hub as anyone could change the track without needing to find my phone all the time.

It just seems really pointless to allow you to do this from your phone and cast, but you can't play it directly from the hub.

We had the same thing, just cancelled Google Music in the end and switched to Spotify so we can use that on the hubs via voice. Very annoying, liked the google music before they got Youtube involved
